CHICAGO (AP) ? Prosecutors have called a former neighbor of Drew Peterson to testify on the second day of the former suburban Chicago police officer's murder trial.
Thomas Pontarelli took the witness stand Wednesday. He and his wife, Mary, were neighbors of Drew Peterson and his third wife, Kathleen Savio, when she drowned in 2004. Mary Pontarelli testified Tuesday that she screamed when she saw Savio lying lifeless in a bathtub.
Peterson is charged with first-degree murder in the Savio's 2004 drowning death. Prosecutors contend that the former Bolingbrook officer killed Savio and tried to cover it up to make it look like an accident.
Peterson was charged after the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. He is suspected in her disappearance but hasn't been charged.
