Military Families Receive Consumer Financial Protection.

Personnel at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson account for almost ten percent of the Anchorage Bowl population. This makes them a big target for financial predators. One government agency has been tasked to help safeguard military families.

Military families add more than a billion dollars annually to the Southcentral Alaskan economy. With that in mind the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is taking action to curb the fraud against members of the military in the 49th state.

Holly Petraeus,Assistant Director of the Office of Service Member Affairs paid a visit to both Ft. Wainwright and JBER this week. The wife of former Gen. David Petraeus brings a special insight to her position having more than thirty years experience with military life. Her agency wants to make sure all military families receive the financial education they need to make the best financial decisions.

One area Petraeus sees as damaging to military families are online scams."The Internet is challenging, it's a great benefit for all of us.You can do a lot of shopping, its a convenience but also an open door for people you wouldn't let in your house, in reality you're letting them into your house, through your computer"
