NFL Bettor's Guide: Tebow, Broncos need a prayer vs. Steelers

Tim Tebow will need a prayer to beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

It's that time of the year again - playoff time. And our experts have everything you need to make you a winner on NFL wild-card weekend.

FALCONS at GIANTS
1 p.m., Sunday, Ch. 5, Giants by 3, 47?

BRENNAN?S BUZZ: Maybe all this talk of the Giants making another Super run is a bit premature. But if you?re looking for reasons why Big Blue could take that first step on Sunday, they would be Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. Talk about peaking at the right time. The Giants defense, led by the trio, has registered 11 sacks in its last two games and will be facing a Falcons team that is 0-2 in the postseason with Matty (Ice) Ryan at QB and 1-15 lifetime outdoors in the playoffs. ?I think they have some talented guys in their front seven,? Ryan said, clearly trying to suck up to the Giants defense. Want another reason why the Giants could do some major damage in the first playoff game at MetLife? Eli Manning. All he did this season was set team records with 4,933 passing yards, 589 attempts and 359 completions, while setting an NFL record by tossing 15 of his 29 TD tosses in the fourth quarter. The Giants haven?t won a home playoff game in 11 years. That?s like 77 seasons in NFL years. Big Blue is due Sunday, so take a sick day Monday.

IF I WERE A BETTING MAN: Giants and the over.

BENGALS at TEXANS
4:30 p.m., Saturday, Ch. 4, Texans by 3?, 38?

BRENNAN?S BUZZ: First the good news: The Bengals went 9-0 vs. non-playoff teams this season, which is reason enough to petition the NFL for more such games next season. The bad news? Well, have you ever ridden the ?Tea Cup? ride at Disney on a full stomach? (Don?t ask). That?s the sort of feeling I got watching the Bengals play their other seven games this season. The ones against teams that made this year?s playoffs. The ones Cincy went 0-7 in. Upside? Six of those seven losses were by eight or fewer points. Downside? The Bengals? last postseason win came exactly 21 years ago today. Upside? This is Houston?s first playoff appearance, and rookie T.J. Yates is making his playoff debut. But the biggest downside is the Bengals? spotty run defense, which now gets a dose of Arian Foster and Ben Tate. I?m starting to get that ?Tea Cup? feeling all over again.

IF I WERE A BETTING MAN: Texans and the under.

LIONS at SAINTS
8 p.m., Saturday, Ch. 5, Saints by 10?, 59

BRENNAN?S BUZZ: The saddest thing I?ve seen on TV the past few days was Henry Winkler doing commercials for reverse mortgages for people over 62 years of age. ?The Fonz,? all paunchy and gray and looking like he should be playing shuffleboard at Shady Pines Retirement Home. Tragic. The next saddest thing I expect to see are the Lions making a quick cameo appearance in the 2012 postseason, their first visit since 1999. How much do you think the Lions hate Matt Flynn right now? If they had beaten the Packers and their backup QB, the Lions would be playing the Giants. Instead, they get to visit the Superdome, where the Saints haven?t lost this season, and face Drew Brees, who destroyed Dan Marino?s single-season passing record while throwing 46 touchdowns. These will not be ?Happy Days? for the Lions.

IF I WERE A BETTING MAN: Saints and the over.

STEELERS at BRONCOS
4:30 p.m., Sunday, Ch. 2, Steelers by 8, 34?

BRENNAN?S BUZZ: So Ben Roethlisberger?s bum ankle still has him walking like John Wayne in ?True Grit? and Rashard Mendenhall is done for the season with a torn ACL. But if the Steelers are going to make another Super Bowl run, they?re going to do it with their defense, and that unit gets a lift Sunday with the return of LaMarr Woodley from that nagging hamstring injury. Denver stumbles in off three straight losses, but Tim Tebow said, ?The three losses haven?t shaken my confidence.? We?ll see how long that lasts when Woodley and James Harrison and Co. start joining Tim in prayer groups in the Broncos backfield. ?We have to put (Tebow) in a position where he can succeed,? Broncos coach John Fox said. Sadly for Tebow, that position may resemble a pretzel during the game.
